Snells foundation for the future of Tornedalen
At the end of 2021, Snells Entreprenad formed a foundation called “Snells foundation for the future of Tornedalen”. This as part of the company’s ongoing sustainability work which coincides with the company’s 50th anniversary as a limited company. The foundation’s purpose is to encourage entrepreneurship, team spirit and camaraderie as well as good and sustainable achievements that drive development in Tornedalen.
This is done by Snells Entreprenad AB allocating SEK 1.5 million to the foundation and from the foundation, scholarships or grants are to be distributed annually for at least six years starting in 2022. The distribution is to take place at Pajala’s big annual event Pajala market, the second weekend after midsummer.
Individuals, non-profit associations or companies can become scholarship holders. Through their actions and work, these must have demonstrated the qualities that the foundation wants to promote. They must also continue to want to work in the spirit of the foundation in Northern Sweden or Northern Finland. The application period for 2024 is open. The last day for applications is May 31st 2024.
The application must be made using the form according to the link below. Download the form, fill in what is requested, save and send to stiftelse@snells.se. Remember, you can both apply yourself and nominate someone else. The important thing is that you yourself or the person, association or company you nominate work for or have an idea that promotes the purpose of our foundation.

- The application period starts on March 1st and it is possible to apply or nominate up to and including May 31st.

Scholarship holders of 2022
2022 was the first year Snell’s foundation for the future Tornedalen appointed scholarship holders. The foundation’s purpose is to encourage entrepreneurship, team spirit and camaraderie as well as good and sustainable achievements that drive development in Tornedalen. In various ways, through their actions and their work, the scholarship recipients have demonstrated the qualities that the foundation wants to promote. The prize was awarded at Soltorgsscenen during Pajala market.
Carina Kero Esberg & Sofia Kero Åkerman…
…is awarded a scholarship with the following motivation: “Carina and Sofia have a great interest in writing, photographing, drawing and painting motifs from their own neighborhood and see the beauty and uniqueness that we have up here in the north. They have written and illustrated children’s books that help children get to know these areas, our culture and our history and thus feel proud of what we have and see the opportunity in being able to stay, work and live here”.
Evelina Woronin…
…awarded a scholarship with the following motivation: “Evelina is an entrepreneur and multitasker who has settled down in Kaunisvaara. She has a strong drive and commitment to association life and her business and is always curious and interested when new ideas appear. Now she has she taken over Järngrillen in Kaunisvaara and in a short time developed it into a restaurant business where the local and sustainable is in focus. This type of entrepreneural spirit is so incredibly important in a municipality like ours”.
Föreningen Vilja…
…is awarded a scholarship with the following motivation: “The association Vilja is a non-profit association that helps and supports families with children in Tornedalen. Vilja’s events and activities are always free. Supporting families with children is one of the most important things you can do. The children are our future and the association Vilja contributes to creating confident and proud children who learn that you can succeed even if you come from a small place. This is sustainable development in Tornedalen”.
Sattajärvi IF…
…is awarded a scholarship with the following motivation: “Sattajärvi IF started its alpine facility in 2010. Today there are four pisted runs and the facility has been running for twelve years with limited funds and voluntary efforts. Now the association faces major investments in the facility to raise it to another level. The association’s work has ensured the creation of a meaningful and in-demand leisure activity for people in Pajala municipality and the surrounding area. But it is also an activity that brings the villagers together in a joint project and that gives young people the opportunity to learn to take responsibility and see the benefits of volunteering. Through the alpine facility, Sattajärvi IF contributes to increasing Pajala municipality’s attraction and thereby improving the opportunity to work and live here”.
